General functions of the faculty/staff advisor
Faculty advisors can be a tremendous resource for members and officers by providing:

Continuity -  Faculty/staff advisors often serve for multiple years and can provide information on past activities and issues.  The student population changes each year, but a consistent advisor ensures the continued success the Local Committee.
Counseling -  Advisors are a great sounding board for the LC, especially the officers, and can provide helpful recommendations on how to proceed with activities.  They can point out new perspectives or directions to the group and assist members in the development of insight into their problems,
Coaching -  Advisors help provide insight on how to achieve goals.  They help to set realistic goals, and then make sure that members have the tools necessary to succeed.
Interpretation of Policies - Advisors can break down complex university policies and help navigate bureaucracy and red tape on and off campus.  This can be a tremendous timesaver for LCs.
A link between the LC and university support and programs - IAESTE Faculty/Staff Advisors are links to the university administrative system.  They know how to navigate the red tape and how the university system works.  This insight can be invaluable in your Local Committee events and activities planning.
A voice to promote IAESTE and the LC in the university community – Advisors serve as liaisons to university or department administration.  They help to create a better understanding of IAESTE activity on campus and provide the LC with access to key administrators, often adding legitimacy to the students’ requests.
